I have a very special announcement to make: This year, on the first Saturday of the month, May 4, 2019, Superchum will be a part of Free Comic Book Day! That's right, FCBD - the annual event recognized by comic book shops across the country - will for the first time ever feature a Superchum comic. Also part of the all-ages special Free Comic Book Day flip book will be a Spacejacked adventure.
The members of Oddity Prodigy Productions will be at our local comic shop Captain Blue Hen in downtown Newark, DE, to mark this prestigious event. Mixed in with the FCBD offerings from Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics, Boom Studios, IDW Publishing, Dark Horse Comics, and many of the other free comic books announced by Diamond Comic Distributors as being available on freecomicbookday.com, will be our very own Superchum - The World's Friendliest Superhero! Taking space on the shelves next to popular comics like the Amazing Spider-Man, Batman, the Avengers, Stranger Things, Black Hammer, and Captain Marvel will be the bastion of brotherhood himself in a bold new comic detailing for the first time on this any other parallel earth the Untold Origin of the Amiable Avenger!
Typically, Superchum comics online can found here at this website. Reading comics posted at www.superchum.comyou want to take notice of the vibrant golden age feel that the strip evokes. This golden age aura will be found in the first issue, as well, which can be bought at IndyPlanet - with a Comixology-like digital comic available there as well. The stories in these superhero comics follow the adventures of a Justice League-like team called the Mighty Befrienders, as they encounter a veritable trove of bad guys. Instead of fighting them with fists, these young protectors offer their hands in friendship. As far as superhero webcomics go, there is nothing quite like the Adventures of Superchum.
But also in this FCBD flipbook is the aforementioned Spacejacked, a high-flying and action-packed sci-fi adventure comic. Combining many of the popular elements of Firefly, Star Wars and Star Trek, Spacejacked tells a story about an intergalactic confederation and its struggles against an evil star-spanning empire. This throwback retro-sci-fi series has the bold and bright color palette of something like the old Star Blazers cartoon while mixing in action and plots fans of today's big science fiction series like The Expanse would appreciate.
Free Comic Book Day is a national event but Captain Blue Hen Comics has made it a beloved local happening for Newark, Delaware!
Free Comic Book Day 2019 is Saturday, May 4 . Two thousand comic shops around the world will open their doors for the biggest annual celebration of comic books. Captain Blue Hen works together with other Market East Plaza shops to make FCBD into a larger family-friendly Main Street event.
This is Captain Blue Hen's 19th Free Comic Book Day. Every year they have 1500 or more comic fans and enthusiasts attending. Their plucky neighbors in Market East, Delaware Hair Co. and the Newark Arts Alliance, help make this an event special to Main Street and Newark. It is a good thing CBH has such chumly neighbors because Free Comic Book Day takes over the whole shopping center for an outdoor fair-like party.
May 4th is also Star Wars Day!
Each visitor gets a free comic book. There will be comic artists sketching, costumed character appearances (Star Wars with the 501st Legion First State Garrison, superheroes), mini art classes, door prizes, games, outdoor activities, and more. Admission is free and there are opportunities to get extra free comics while helping out the community. Show that you support of local libraries by presenting a library card for an extra free comic. Donate a canned good for the Newark Welfare Committee to get an extra comic If you come in costume, you earn another free comic. More information about the free comics and the event can be found at www.freecomicbookday.com and www.captainbluehen.com.
If you have questions about the event please feel free to call 302-737-3434 or email at mail@captainbluehen.com
